An oil change at Twin Tire, the New Orleans auto care expert, will make your car run better and make it last longer.
You know that one of the best things - if not the best thing - you can do for your car is to make sure you change the oil regularly. Problem is, it's one of those things that - while simple to do - is easy to put off. Then one day, on your way home from the World War II Museum, you think that maybe it's past time to get an oil change. But how do you know if that's the case?
Quickanddirtytips.com says there are four ways other than looking at that faded sticker on your windshield:
- The oil level and condition - low level and/or dark oil means it's time for a change.
- The maintenance reminder on your dashboard comes on.
- A warning light comes on. Quickanddirtytips says, "If you’ve waited so long for an oil change that warning lights are on, you need to get one ASAP. Some lights that may come on due to overextended oil change intervals include the check engine light (especially if your engine has variable valve timing), the oil pressure light, and the oil level warning light. Any of these warning lights mean that you need to get your engine checked right away."
- Your engine starts making strange noises. Again, from quickanddirtytips: "Ticking or knocking noises from the engine may indicate a low oil level or the wrong oil viscosity. ... Unfortunately, by the time things get to the point where your engine is making unusual noises, extensive damage may have been done. This means that instead of getting a simple oil change, you might be getting a gargantuan repair bill – or a whole new engine."
